The poet and his paramour

His devotion is so strong,
he courts her ceaselessly
with poems, speeches, songs and puns,
for anyone to see.

Now she, in turn, rewards him well;
gives insight, calm and peace,
a deeper knowledge of the world
and all that dwells beneath.

She fills his soul with negligence,
reserve up to the brim
and blindness so he does not see
those reaching out to him.

But nonetheless, he willingly
presents her with his heart:
Poet and loneliness, it seems,
can never be apart.
